October 2013

Apple picking was on our agenda at the beginning of October and we went to Hazelton Orchards in Chester, NH.  We weren't in the mood for the circus of Applecrest, Hazelton was quiet and beautiful and they have a small pumpkin patch too.  I stop at their roadside stand all the time on my way home from school to get produce from late August until Thanksgiving.  There were so many good pumpkins we had to line up our favorites to make side by side comparisons.

My first apple pie I've ever made.  It required three phone conferences with Mom.  The crust made me so mad!  It tasted just fine!

On Columbus Day weekend we went to Maine to PumpkinFest in Damariscotta.  Estella and Maria enjoyed climbing up and sliding down the giant slide.  We got some brick oven pizza while we were there from a mobile pizza oven and freshly made kettle corn.  After browsing the pumpkins we didn't stay much longer, Stella was coming down with a cold.

The weekend of October 19th marked the one year anniversary of moving into our house.  It was also expected to be one of the last weekends of mild weather before the freezing weather began to move in so we marked it with a last BBQ with the Pims on Saturday night.  On Sunday afternoon the Miskinis girls and Maria's friend Jordyn came over to make a scarecrow to decorate our front deck for Halloween.

The Monster Mash at Epping Elementary was just last night and is our last event before Halloween this week!  I didn't really want to head out in the darkness after settling in the warm house but it was fun once we got there.  This year we ventured down the "non scary" version of the Haunted Hallway which was scary enough for Maria that I ended up carrying her half of the way.  The music teacher at school had taught all the kids a dance to a zombie song so when that came on it was a line dancing bonanza.  There was also time for crafts in the art room.
