February vacation 2014

The theme is "Frozen".  This vacation started by downloading the soundtrack to "Frozen" for the car ride up to Jefferson and the theme has carried through the week.  It is frozen outside, it barely reached the freezing mark two weekends ago for a day and then it plunged back down to the high teens low twenties.  The snow is so hard packed and frozen it's hard to know what to do outside even if you can bear it.  Here's Maria's picture she made today.
The snowman represent Olaf in the movie "Frozen", we can't build snowmen, the snow is crumbly and dry.  Notice the bluebirds in the trees, they stayed this winter, we've seen them in the red birdhouse.

Today we made doves.  We made circles with a compass and Stella cut this circle out almost all by herself!

When we were in ME we went to family style dinner at Trattoria Athena.  We had great food with beets and farro, blue cheese and blood oranges, greek pork stew with saurkraut and squid ink pasta with tuna, capers, olives and the girls had - macaroni and cheese.  Fancy mac and cheese though.

When we were in ME Babcia and Maria had a sewing day.  Maria learned to operate the sewing machine, she knows what all the buttons and knobs do, and the iron and they made this pillow together.  Maria transferred the design and then used crayons to color it in.  Then they put paper napkins on top and ironed it to get the wax off but set the color in the material.  Then they made it into a pillow case.

Lots of cartoons...

Including seeing "Frozen" again today, the sing-a-long version with Maria's friend Piper and her mom and little sister.
