Acadia 09

We just returned from our yearly camping trip to Acadia and it's nice to not feel damp. It rained, misted or fogged on us all weekend and although we had a good time it would've been nice to see a little more sun. It's July tomorrow and Maria is still sleeping in fleece pajamas! This year was the first year that The Mannings and my sister Tina came with us. On Saturday we had half a day of sun to get in a little kayaking and hike Day Mtn.
Separately we hiked and biked and kayaked on Sunday. Even though it was raining Connor was eager for his first try at solo kayaking. It's so calm deep in Soames Sound, which is where the campground is, that it was perfect for him.
We ate at some terrific restaurants. I managed to eat goat cheese for three different meals (in cream of asparagus and garlic scape soup, on my grilled portabello mushroom and in my Austrian fruit salad) and had Salted Caramel w/pretzel ice cream at Mt Desert Ice Cream one day and Mexican Chocolate the next. Before we left on Monday we forged through the driving mist one last time to walk the sand bar from Bar Harbor to Bar Island at low tide-something we hadn't done yet on an Acadia trip. There is always something new every year!
