Perfect fall weekend

Nothing says autumn like a good fall festival and the Deerfield Fair on a sunny, sweater-wearing October weekend. On Saturday, after dance class, the Miskinis clan stopped at our house so we could snack and see what the internet could tell us about happenings of the day. We looked no further than Dover's AppleFest, a close-down-the-street, live music, fair food, community celebration. Paul met us in Dover after working in the morning and we strolled our way through face painting, a kid's arts and crafts table, made a bagel bird feeder, ate french fries and enjoyed a rock n' roll cover band. Forget nap, it was too beautiful a day! Maria got about a half an hour in Paul's car on the way home, I took Stella the Yeller in my car and yes she did!-all the way home. Good thing Maria got a few zzzzz's because I decided to take her to the nighttime horse show at the Deerfield Fair for the $500 jump off, the most popular part of the horseshow to watch. With minimal luggage and warm, warm clothes we headed off into a perfect night. We ate hot dogs and fried dough while we watched two hours of the horse show! Maria said someof the horses were "feisty" when they bucked and shied a little bit and wondered why the horse and cart drivers had fishing poles (the whips). She was just as entertained when the tractors came to take the jumps down. Home at 10:15 after 45 minutes in traffic leaving the fair. Stella wide awake and happy with Papa at home, bed close to midnight.
Sunday morning out of bed without delay, don't want to miss this for breakfast.
We spent almost eight hours at the fair today. I don't even know how we did it, it went by in a flash. Even Stella was perfectly happy all day strapped to Papa's chest
We did the traditional animal petting, Maria tested out the tractors and this year we had to add a few more midway rides to the schedule. The fair was a mob scene today but everyone was cheery and polite and it didn't seem that overwhelming.
We left the fair with lots of good food in our tummies (we're having salad for dinner) and Kai Lan.
