Our trip to Spain at the end of July was packed with busy days in the city and slow days at the beach. The day after we arrived we had a family party in Cercedilla. We had some informal birthday celebrations and met some new "cousins"-you know how everyone becomes a cousin.

While we were in the city we also went to the Madrid Zoo. Some of our favorite things there were feeding flamingos, the baby elephant, the waving bears and feeding the giraffe.

Another day in the city was spent riding the Metro and walking through El Retiro admiring the parks and fountains and eating ice cream.

The beach photos speak for themselves. One night we walked along the beach to dine at a restaurant close by. Most of our time was spent swimming in the ocean or the pool and building sand castles that everyone passing by stopped to admire.

One day we took a day trip to Guadalest, a small, old town up in the mountains. Picture narrow roads corkscrewing up steep mountains. Now picture Stella throwing up all over Laura's car and herself and the car seat. She was fine, asked for her lollipop back and sat in the driver's seat while we cleaned everything up.

The last day we were there the ocean turned wild, there was a red flag warning in the morning and the waves had eroded the beach and created pools of water and little rivers that we played in.
