July 4th Heat

Doctors and nurses always comment on how having a baby in the summer is so great because it's a time of year when there is not a lot of illness circulating around. As the heat gets turned up this 4th of July weekend I remember being pregnant with Maria and eating popsicles in the air conditioned bedroom and then nursing a tiny, sweaty baby in 90% humidity. This kind of heat does not agree with me, pregnant or not, so we sought relief yesterday first at the water park and then at the Crawn's lake house. Maria was so happy to have Papa at the water park with us yesterday because he can do more with her, like take her on the water slide. I didn't have my camera at the water park but you can check out this link to see a picture of it http://www.liquidplanetwaterpark.com/water_park.php , it's called Trevor's Time Warp and she just wanted to go over and over again. We came home around one to a hot house (because why would we install air conditioners in advance of a heat wave) and a child who wasn't tired, hungry or thirsty. After battling lunch and nap for an hour Paul finally put her in the car and brought Sleeping Beauty back ten minutes later. Unfortunately her chaos and tantrums, the heat and my irritation ruined my nap and so the afternoon was a bit of a challenge. Paul said he should have put both of us in the car and driven us around. Fortunately we had evening plans to force me out of my funk. The Crawns had invited us down to their lake house in Deerfield to BBQ and swim. Maria went for her first boat ride and then we all went swimming of the back of the boat. Afterwards while dinner was being prepared the kids were entertained with tents going up and the building of a campfire. Maria is now excited to sleep outside in her own tent which makes me excited to go tent shopping for our Acadia trip next year.
