Watery weekend

This past weekend was our first heatwave of the summer season.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday it was around 90 degrees or more and Sunday it wasn't quite as hot but still in the 80s.  On Friday I picked up the girls and headed straight for Wason Pond to splash and eat dinner on the beach.  The big find of the day- tiny tadpoles which we repeatedly scooped up and collected in our bucket and then dumped them out.

On Saturday Estella, being jealous of my field trip to the ocean, requested a trip to the "ocean beach".  Off to Great Island Common we went.  It was hot even ocean side, barely a breeze.  The big find at the ocean-periwinkles and a crab.  The water was at mid tide, perfect for poking among the rocks and seaweed at the end of the beach and turning over rocks.  Of course the water is painfully cold, except to Stella.  Maria and I were gasping in shock with water below our knees while Stella kept trying to drag me further out to sea.  "Come ON Mama!".

Sunday we went to Susanne's pool to cool off, it was the perfect temperature.  Today after school we came home and the girls plunged into the wading pool and ran through our "sprinkler", the punctured hose.
